This Fulcrum Insight focuses on the dynamics of influence through the proposition of being a self-determining person, and the process of determining what kind of influence we will have working through us in the quest to fulfill the opportunity of living.
Coming in two parts:
Part One: The Behavioural Default of the 21st Century
Part Two: Paving the way forward
THE BEHAVIOURAL DEFAULT OF THE 21ST CENTURY
Our lives are not isolated events. We are born and live in cultures that define our identity and perception of what is possible and acceptable. The vibes of the 21st century imbue the air around us, so much so, to a point of blurring in the minds of many of us the vibes that belong with the higher orders of the human possibility.
A standout features of the 21st century is its behavioural default. It destroys and pollutes (vastly) more than it creates and refines. It creates (vastly) more losers than winners. It reverts to hostility and aggression (vastly) more than embarking upon the paths of resolution and peace. It sows divisions and conflicts so much more than unifying in a greater cause. Well, you likely get the drift of this. Consider the wars in progress today, and the ones that are on-edge close to erupting in the name of countless versions of senseless self-righteousness.
One other default is the attitude of ‘everything is for the taking’. The strong taking from the weak; those claiming the right for something with any means justifying the end, with complete disregard to anything else.
All of this is whirling, swirling in the atmospheres of the 21st century, with human bystanders breathing these toxic influences into their thinking and emotions, thus becoming the hypnotic norm of crowd behaviour.
PAVING THE WAY FORWARD
Changing the inner settings
While we may not have an aggressive nature – the reader may well be amongst the kindest people on earth – we were born in the world we were born in. Its influence is present in us from birth, and there is no way around this, until we make up our minds to consciously do something about it.
How to escape the spiritually suffocating influence of a decaying world; to connect to and come into the flow of the revitalising breeze of fresh forces present in the higher domains of the human possibility?
One may be into all sorts of spiritually-driven practices, such as deep meditations and searching processes, but if these do not happen in the flow of a higher influence, they may not work – or at least, not as effectively and connectively – as they would when exposed to and immersed in the evolutionary dimensions of living.
‘Evolutionary dimensions’ to mean: Not fixed, open-ended, pristine, unpolluted, still growing, expanding, developing, moving, and evolving; the realms of live and let live, and many new beginnings… and this is just a little taster of the enormity of this wide-open window of opportunity.
Does this feel to you a little bit out of reach?
Because it really is not. We are already breathing these energies. The driving instinct for this is present in us from birth. The problem is in the mix of the new and the old. The task at hand is to get to a point of breathing more of the fresh and new, and less and less of the old, and especially, its toxic aspects.
In being careful to not oversimplify this process, it must be said that it has its own gradient of the simple to practice and achieve, to the steeper end of requirements that call for special knowhow, ecologies, and determination.
One of the most potently effective, always close at hand technologies concerns how we use language – especially the inner narrative that happens in the mind.
The inner narrative
What do I want? What do I want to be like? What quality is currently important for me to develop? Why do I do what I do? What do I want to be close to in me? What and who do I seek to be associated with? What kind of conversation do I want to be in? How can I use myself better? What is holding me back that I need to free myself from?
The task is not to go for fixing answers but to engage in an open-ended inner dialogue, to reveal the multi-dimensional tapestry of perspectives therein, from the obvious to the as yet hidden. To simply be in a process, leading to a process, leading to a… process… until such time where its resonance attracts a higher intelligence, and you will feel and know it when this happens.
A process is like a magnet
When we are in process, either with others or on our own, the more focused and concentrated we are, the stronger its magnetism and power of attraction.
In the worlds of human process, we need to consider process station and wavelength. By analogy, consider the difference between classical and rock music, each with its dedicated station and wavelength.
The quality of our inner narrative determines the nature of influence that flows through our mind and being. Telling ourselves the right story, using clear, expansive language, is self-instructive, attracting what we want, energetically speaking.
The universe is attentive to the resonance of searching humans. And so is the system we occupy.
Defying the worlds DNA
We are now approaching the landing point of this Fulcrum Insight, with the awareness of the fact that the default attitudes of the world we live in are etched in its DNA, which has been forming for thousands of years. The 21st century assumes that its citizens belong to it. But as we know, a free human may choose to belong to a greater cause, rather than to anything else.
At this point there is a mindfulness of those of us residing in tyrannical regimes, and violent conflicts, where changing the default looks to be an absolute impossibility. Perhaps those that can may uphold the hope, thereby together being a catalyst for it to happen. History shows that there are times where light has its magical ways to shine through, to engender seemingly miraculous turns of events.
Developing and refining the inner narrative, with persistence and a bit of creativity in how we use language, leads to an expanded consciousness of the phenomenal scope of the human possibility that is yet to be realised.
Good things come in small packages. So does human development.
