One of the worldly manifestations of the all-pervading universal law of dualities is the two dividing polarities: The good versus the bad; the right versus the wrong. Throughout history, the titanic tussle between these two polarities and their respective powers has been shaping the world we live in.
Consider for a moment the aggregate of all the constructive acts produced by humans over the last few thousand years, and the aggregate of all the not constructive, to the utterly destructive, acts. Over time, these two opposites created two human-manufactured growing banks of force that have their residues present in our DNA, and in various inner formations – each individual and their own inner balance.
‘Good’ and ‘bad’, ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, is so deeply etched in the world’s DNA, to a point of making it quite easy for any of us to be sucked into one of its vortices, to be possessed by it, and become afflicted by its predictable forms of expression.
Can you see the rocker-bar like action of these two in you, today? As it keeps happening in tiny little ways, coming and going in our head as we move from moment to moment. Little incidents within the family, when at work, on the highway, in various exchanges with others. How micro-agencies of these two polarities tick-tock in the human mind.
What is good for some, is not so good for others. What is right for me, may be wrong for you… It is an impossibly tangled jungle of forces, ways of thinking, emotions, and moralities. From the obvious – evil acts are exactly what they are – to the nuanced, with blurred grey zones ranging between the two.
All in all, adding to the mass confusion and unnatural division that exists in the 21st century, creating two opposing camps entangled in never-ending conflicts – from harmless arguments to those involving mental and physical weapons of mass destruction.
Being a good human, a kind human, is of course the way to be. What is being highlighted is the difference between behavioural traits driven by cultural moralities, as against those guided by a higher consciousness awareness of the presence of a greater cause, and how it shapes human thought and action.
The third way
Fortunately, there is a way forward, albeit one that due to the absence of awareness, know-how, and proper guidance, is absent from the conscious practice of the world at large.
What happens when we escape the ‘good guy’ / ‘bad guy’ entrapment, into the realms of impartiality and greater neutrality, seeking to perceive the governing truths and greater causes of life and living?
Let’s make this tangible. What is your experience with the process of taking sides? Such as being involved in an argument between friends; in relationships; sports; politics; cultural differences… Every day we are nudged to take something’s or someone’s side, in some context, thereby processing the persuasions created by the nature of its biases.
In taking sides, we become afflicted by the heats of division. We live in a world divided in so many ways, to the point of being an unrecognizable mess to an outside observer. Why would I want to live in a state of inner division and conflict and what it attracts? Would I not most naturally prefer to live in a state of inner harmony and intactness?
This is not suggesting to not take the side of truth and justice. Once more, it is about not giving in to cultural moralities and persuasion, with their emotions of righteousness.
We are now at a point that highlights a foundational awareness: The high unifies; the low divides. The higher we go in contemplation and process, the more together we are in our states of being, where the law of dualities manifests at a far higher, close to core level. The more drawn into the world of two tangled giants with one eye, the more confused we are, blind to the presence of an illumined path to an elevated, enhancing, and clarifying state to be in.
Developing impartiality and neutrality is one of the most challenging developmental tasks for a lifetime. Life is an evolutionary building site, and as such, we are not and are not meant to be perfect. For a developing human, the idea of complete neutrality and impartiality is something akin to a pipedream. It is more a case of being able to perceive and feel beyond the inner pull of personal biases.
Note: ‘Impartiality’ and ‘neutrality’ not from the standpoint of not-minding-not-caring-not-feeling, but the ability to perceive things not through the distorted lenses of personal biases, but through a developing ability to perceive things as they are, what they are, and respond or not respond accordingly.
Which is why the greatest opportunities to advance and be touched by the energetic flow of a bright future is mostly out of reach for most humans alive, because it keeps arriving through the spaces in between the complicated labyrinths of the mixing pot of our collective biases and the plethora of disconnected opinions that they keep generating.
An illumined path
Billions of people are hypnotised by the powerful magnetic pull of the two polarities, rather than the proposition of advancing inside of the flow of unbiased perceptions not coloured by dogmatic ways of thinking. Escaping conformity, we find ourselves on an illumined path, and awakening awareness of what it means to be a human being living in times of radical change.
A simple practice
How do I train myself towards a greater impartiality and neutrality?
One helpful practice is to train oneself to deal in facts. You are likely aware of the speed at which the emotions get involved in, well, almost anything. Try to bypass the emotions, and opinions, and ala-hopefuls. Instead, tell yourself what you are seeing and experiencing using facts only. Create little stories made of facts, nothing else. Practice this until it leads you to the next step.
Note regarding facts: Bearing in mind that we live in times where misinformation is rife, the exercise is to be mindful of the difference between tangible facts and question marks.
With best wishes,
